In response to all those who commented on Marc Fischer’s “The Tyranny of Smoke-Free Living” Article; let me say one thing; if all the persons who are so much up in arms about smoke-free, they should work far harder at getting their governments and states to pass even harder laws on air pollution - not the joke laws that President Bush is making or rather, taking away; which, if they didn’t notice, is causing respiratory problems and even death especially in the very young and old.
Read where the US government said that Ground Zero posed no health problems whatsoever and now a large number of those fire officers and others who worked on the scene are now suffering serious lung illnesses:
http://www.ucsusa.org/scientific_integrity/interference/ground-zero-air-pollution.html
As the report stated:
“In a series of public statements issued after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) assured the people of New York that the air around ground zero was safe to breathe. Unfortunately, the agency lacked authoritative information on which to base these claims, and internal agency data conflicting with this reassuring public posture were ignored. The EPA’s press releases and public statements after 9/11 were vetted by then-National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, suggesting that the White House placed politics over science when communicating about ground zero’s air quality. Tragically, the impact of this public deception continues to be felt by thousands of rescue workers now plagued by chronic and crippling lung ailments.”
I not only conclude this but draw attention to the fact that this approach is the same general approach that is used in all matters concerning health and pollution. I acknowledge that since the IPCC 4th Assessment Report, the government does however, seem to be doing something about the problem of climate change. Cheers for that.
Altered Oceans Report by the Los Angeles Times - By Kenneth R. Weiss, Usha Lee McFarling - Dec 27, 2006
This report makes the extent of damage to fishing, sea life and even humans very clear. The appearance of the Red Tide Algae has already cost the lives of scores of sea animals and affect the health of humans that walk along what are now deadly shores.
This and other algae, including the rapid growth of Lyngbya (an ancient, pre-historic algae) are known to cause memory loss in humans, respiratory complications such as Asthma and severe skin problems and almost certain death to sea-life. Animals which eat sea-food if left untreated, die in most cases. Survivors seem to suffer permanent neurological damage. Advanced sea-life, which are most like humans, seem to be the most severely affected and threatened.
These new algae phenomenon have been met with official lifeguard warnings and visitors are advised to stay away from shores or wear breathing masks if they must go in the vicinity of the sea.
“Altered Oceans” is a troubling five-part-series on the present growing crisis in the world seas which now contain 38 ‘dead’ spots instead of only 3 as decades ago. These numbers are expected to double every decade, which means that in 5 years, the minimum quantity of ‘dead spots’ in the earth’s oceans are expected to number at least 57. Key phrases in the 5-part Series on the Crisis in the Seas by the Los Angeles Times are as follows:
From UCS USA - Union of Concerned Scientists of the USA:
“Over the last 50 years, the way food animals are raised and fed has changed dramatically—to the detriment of both animals and humans. Many people are surprised to find that most of the food animals in the United States are no longer raised on farms at all. Instead they come from crowded animal factories, also known as large confined animal feeding operations (CAFOs).”
Just like other factories, animal factories are constantly searching for ways to shave their costs. To save money, they’ve redefined what constitutes animal feed, with little consideration of what is best for the animals or for human health. As a result, many of the ingredients used in feed these days are not the kind of food the animals are designed by nature to eat.
Just take a look at what’s being fed to the animals you eat.
…. Animal feed legally can contain rendered road kill, dead horses, and euthanized cats and dogs.
Rendered feathers, hair, skin, hooves, blood, and intestines can also be found in feed, often under catch-all categories like “animal protein products.” ….. Animal waste used for feed is also allowed to contain dirt, rocks, sand, wood, and other such contaminants.
Gerald Ford, former US President has passed away on Tuesday 26th December, 2006. He was 93 years of age and the 38th President in America’s history.
The American Chronicle reported on December 27th 2006, that Gerald Ford, then a Congressman, did not approve of the Air Force’s explanation of UFO’s and that he requested a Congressional Investigation of the phenomena. The Air Force had put J. Allen Hynek to the task of officially investigating the phenomenon and Hynek’s apparent explanation was that UFOs were the result of ’swamp gas’. Gerald Ford had made the request formally in response to his constituents.
In President Ford’s words:”In the firm belief that the American public deserves a better explanation than that thus far given by the Air Force, I strongly recommend that there be a committee investigation of the UFO phenomena. I think we owe it to the people to establish credibility regarding UFOs and to produce the greatest possible enlightenment of the subject.
I have taken special interest in these (UFO) accounts because many of the latest reported sightings have been made in my home state of Michigan…Because I think there may be substance to some of these reports and because I believe The American people are entitled to a more thorough explanation than has been given them by the Air force to date, I am proposing either the Science and Astronautics Committee or the Armed services Committee of the House, schedule hearings on the subject of UFOs and invite testimony from both the executive branch of the Government and some of the persons who claim to have seen UFOs…In the firm belief that the American public deserves a better explanation than that thus far given by the Air Force, I strongly recommend that there be a committee investigation of the UFO phenomena. I think we owe it to the people to establish credibility regarding UFOs and to produce the greatest possible enlightenment on this subject.”
Responding to criticism that he was wasting American tax payer’s money on requesting a full investigation, he stated: “Those who scoff at the idea of a congressional investigation of UFO’s apparently are unaware that the House Armed services Committee has scheduled a closed- door hearing on the matter Tuesday with the Air Force and that rep. Joseph E. Karth, D-Minn., headed a three man sub-committee which held two days of hush-hush hearings five years ago on behalf of the Science and Astronautics Committee. Karth has confirmed in conversation with a member of my staff that he conducted these secret hearings.

The Food and Drug Administration of America ruled on Thursday, via an almost 700-page “draft risk assessment” that milk and meat from some cloned farm animals are safe to eat. The ruling has caused intense criticism from consumer groups and from meat and dairy companies who have all raised concerns.
The ruling has been hailed by cloning companies and from some farmers and breeders who already have made clones of their prized livestock but have not yet had the chance to put their meat on the market. All insist that cloning is just another breeding technique, like artificial insemination or in-vitro fertilization.

The article does not mention that the cloned animals are cloned without the prion-protein, the protein that is not only a harbinger of CJB diseases but also is a necessary protein for memory and inheritance.
