‘WoW’ Mystery Signal Code 6EQUJ5 Anniversary on August 15th 2007

Friday, 31. August 2007 von Ondurag

August 15th 2007 heralded the 30th Anniversary of the ‘WoW’ signal when astronomer Jerry Ehman was looking over a printout of radio data from Ohio State University’s Big Ear Radio Observatory when he saw a string of code so remarkable that he had to circle it and scribble “Wow!” in the margin. The mystery code “6EQUJ5″ is an anomalous radio signal and extraterrestrial transmission that was detected in 1977 at the Big Ear Radio telescope, now defunct, as it swept the heavens on August 15th 1977 - the signal was so strong that it was said to have originated from an extraordinary source.

The power of the 6EQUJ5 signal strength nearly broke the encoded recording system of Big Ear Radio Observatory, which was especially designed to break down code signals by receiving potentially strong signals through more than one channel. The received signal was at least 30 standard deviations beyond normal—for a period of 12 seconds per character. The total of 72 seconds for the total code is what almost broke the Big Ear Radio Observatory channels.

Astronomers tried to track down a terrestrial cause after the single radio burst was detected but could find no glitch in the system, and no source that could have explained the strength and the frequency of the seconds-long signal. No-one could figure out whether the signal was a burst of human-made interference or an alien broadcast from the stars; since then, the source of the “Wow” signal has never been detected heard from again - even though astronomers have looked for it countless times. Since then, the “Wow” signal 6EQUJ5 has symbolized as one of the central enigmas for alien-hunters and even inspired a scene in “The X-Files” TV film series.

According to one unidentified person who refers to Seth Ehman as “my buddy”, “The ‘Wow’ signal is the best evidence of extraterrestrial intelligence,” .

Ehman said aliens were not the first thing that came to his mind when he saw the Big Ear data in 1977 and wrote his famous word.

“The ‘Wow’ was just an instantaneous response in writing,” he said. “I had no expectations, other than ‘here’s something extremely interesting - and gee, let’s try to find out what it is, or what it isn’t.’”

Today, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) Institute is preparing up to look for the signal once again, using the latest tool for seeking signals from extraterrestrial civilizations: the Allen Telescope Array in California. A senior Astronomer at the SETI Insitute, Seth Shostak, told Alan Boyle at the Cosmic Log of MSNBC that:

“Once the Allen Telescope Array is up and running, and that should be later this year, there’s going to be a small project in which we’ll look at the same section where the ‘Wow’ signal was detected, and of course the same spot on the radio dial,”.

In the 29 years since Ehman scribbled “WOW!” on his signal log, subsequent investigations have characterized the transmission as a tantalizingly inconclusive piece of scientific evidence.

According to Geek Trivia, who ackowledges that the code remains a shining example of geek trivia and “a stand-alone light in the alien-hunting darkness” … “if an alien intelligence was trying to contact us, its signal would almost certainly have to be an “always on” transmission—or, at the very least, occur at regular, predictable intervals so researchers could find it again. The WOW! signal—so far as we know—doesn’t qualify.”

Hotel Coral Beach Mistakes Nobel Laureate for Tramp

Friday, 31. August 2007 von Ondurag

Rigoberta Menchú, the Nobel peace prizewinner, Unesco goodwill ambassador, Guatemalan presidential candidate and figurehead for indigenous rights was ordered to leave the 5-star Hotel Coral Beach in Cancun when she entered their premises in August 2007. The hotel’s staff was not aware of Rigoberta Menchú’s true identity and assumed that she was a tramp or bag lady from the area.

The attempted eviction was stalled when other hotel guests recognised Ms. Menchú and interceded on her behalf. The behaviour of the 5-star hotel was not only embarrassing but was a prime example of disrespect for persons of indigenous origins; Ms. Menchú dresses herself in indigenous clothing which is her signature mark.   Read the UK Guardian full report here.

Cat Mutilation Cases

Wednesday, 29. August 2007 von Ondurag

As a matter of record and investigation, we will be listing some animal mutilation cases. The intent is to examine cause, reasons and the whodunnits.

Animals mutilation, including cattle, cats and dogs are surrounded by a measure of mystery. Some cases have clearly not been solved but most cases have been proven to have been done by humans, either as a form of pleasure and fun or as part of Satanic rituals and devil worship.

Here, we’ll be dealing specifically with cat mutilations which seemed to have plagued and frightened the citizens of many towns and counties in the U.S.A in great measure since 2002.

Monday 27th August 2007, Barrie, Ontario

Three cats have been found dismembered in the city in recent weeks. Ontario SPCA Inspector Rachel Banks said the killings are suspicious and do not look like regular animal attacks.

“Wild animals in Ontario eat the intestines and the head, but in these cases those parts have been left,” she said. “It’s kind of frightening if there’s the Jeffery Dahmer of cats out there.”

The latest cat was found Friday on a popular dog-walking trail off Ferndale in the city’s north end.

The body was cut in half and the cat’s limbs were separated and left a few feet from the body.

“If you look at the bone, it’s been clean cut,” said Banks. “There is no evidence of gnawing or chewing, and there has been evidence of skinning. That’s not normal. That’s not what animals in Ontario do.”

SPCA officials removed the body, and plan to send it to the University of Guelph for a necropsy.

The other two cats were found in the south end of the city in the Big Bay Point Road area.

The first cat was found in a residential backyard by homeowners.

The second cat was found, wearing a collar with no tags, in a high school football field.

For Banks, the cases are disturbing and frustrating.

“Usually the animals are alive when we get them so it is much easier to have a veterinarian examine them and tell us what the problem is,” she said. “But in a case like this it’s a little more frustrating when then animal is not only dead, but mutilated as well.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Barrie OSPCA at 728-7311.

Saturday 25th August 2007, Barrie, Ontario - Report by The Barrie Examiner

Tuesday 15th August, 2007, Spokane, U.S.A.

Tuesday night, SpokAnimal CARE responded to yet another disturbing call from residents surrounding Albi Stadium. For the third time this month, the back half of a severed cat was found in their neighborhood.

SpokAnimal is very concerned about the nature of these cruel acts: they have no blood anywhere in or near the body, the bodies are strategically and methodically placed in the area that they’ve been found, and the cut is very clean, not torn as if an animal had caused the dismemberment.

Officials at SpokAnimal fear that these acts are somehow related to a cruel cult activity. They are asking the public for help in providing leads on who might be killing the cats. If they do have information, they should contact Gail Mackie at SpokAnimal CARE: 509-534-8133 or contact an Animal Protection Officer in their offices at 710 N. Napa in Spokane.

August 1st 2003, Aurora, Colorado, U.S.A

Aurora Colorado Police Chief Ricky Bennett said that necropsies performed on a sample of 10 mutilated cats showed that, without a doubt, other animals, such as foxes, killed the felines. It was the assumed that all 45 cat mutilations in the Denver metro area during 2003 were apparently the result of predators and not humans. This came after authorities in Utah made similar findings and contacted the Aurora police to investigate the possibility of wild animals being the cause of their rash of mutilated cats.

There had been nearly 50 incidents in the metro area beginning November 2002 up until August 2003 and a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a Colorado suspect was at $14,500. Public suspicions that a person or people were responsible was so intense that authorities had stopped giving out information about the cases saying it might spur more mutilations.

The Colorado task force was specially assembled to investigate the killings and had planned to compile its information to aid other states that experience a rash of pet deaths. see link.

June 29th 2003, Denver, U.S.A.

A string of cat mutilations continued to climb in Denver in 2003 as there were three more reported cases in the metro area over the weekend before June 29th, 2003.

The most recent mutilated cat was found by a Denver Police officer Sunday morning in a Denver park near 8th and Syracuse. Investigators sent the carcass to the Denver Dumb Friends League for examination.

At least 28 cats have turned up dead in the metro area in the past year, with some decapitated and others gutted. Eighteen of those cats have been found in Aurora.

A woman walking her dog early Saturday morning found one of the cats, police spokeswoman Kathleen Walsh said. Police were alerted to the other cat, which was found in a field, by an anonymous tip, she said.

About a dozen cats also have been killed and mutilated in Salt Lake City since last spring and authorities there are in contact with Colorado police.

The Denver Dumb Friends League is offering a reward of at least $12,000 for information that leads to the capture and conviction of those responsible for the mutilations.

Proof of Satanic Rituals Taking Place at Envirolink.org Mailing List, Arroyo

Arroyo tunnel, site of cat mutilation, is cleaned up

Last Update: 08/15/2003 12:49:44 PM
By: Kurt Christopher

A drainage tunnel believed to be the site of satanic rituals has been cleaned up in Albuquerque.

Ten-year-old Michael Cericola found his cat dead and mutilated in the arroyo near Comanche and Tramway NE last month. Inside, the tunnel was covered in graffiti saying “666” and “Satan.”

City officials spent $7,000 repainting the tunnel and placing grates on either side to prevent anyone from entering.

Officials plan to clean up other arroyos around the city. They are also offering a $15,000 reward for information regarding the cat mutilation.

Haiti UFO Fake Film made by Professional Animator

Sunday, 26. August 2007 von Ondurag

After highly realistic looking videos hit the web via YouTube showing UFO’s both in Haiti and the Dominican Republic and dubbed by many as ‘the best UFO videos ever’, Barzolff, a 35 year old professional animator going by the name of barzolff814 and who attended one of the most prestigious art schools in France, has finally owned to David Sarno of the Los Angeles Times that he made the video himself - its all fake.

The videos, especially that of the one supposedly filmed in Haiti, caused perhaps the most intense discussions on its authenticity amongst UFO believers and non-believers alike. The video in Haiti begins with a woman gasping but continuing to film an apparently massive UFO pass over her in Haiti. A couple of things were strange with the videos though they largely looked very authentic:

  1. In the Haiti UFO video, the woman who catches the UFOs on film gasps when the UFO comes into view but does not continue gasping throughout the video - we thought that was fishy for someone witnessing the massive underside of one flying overhead as it flew alongside another UFO. In addition to this, she has her camera trained on the section of sky (behind a coconut tree) before the UFO comes fully into sight - the behavioral pattern should have been in sequence:
    • gasps,
    • asks herself ‘what is that?’,
    • trains camera,
    • gasps again,
    • gasps all the way through and moans in disbelief whilst filming.
  2. Either that or was she supposed to have been innocently filming a couple of coconut tree heads just for the fun of it before the UFOs suddenly come into sight? What was Barzollf918 thinking when he thought up this sequence - did he want it to be like this in order to leave clues?
  3. The Haiti UFO did not look like any other ever witnessed before - it had suction-like spinning nodes on its underside that seemed unusual to many; not disregarding the fact that they looked either like upside down coconut trees or short spider legs.
  4. The Haiti UFO had a discernible humming of the engines as they flew overhead -from what we all knew about UFOs, they were supposed to be silent
  5. The Dominican Republic UFO had a sort of thin diamond shaped structure atop its shape which seemed very fake.
  6. In the Dominican Republic video, the same type UFO appears that appeared in the Haiti video but (and this was the fishiest part) the shot seemed to have been taken from a different angle as that UFO seemed to take a course identical to the one in Haiti - miles away as though the UFO was filmed by another witness from another angle right there in Haiti - it was then I really began to doubt the authenticity of the two films.

Although the topic of the coconut trees busied many that they all looked too much alike, I myself could not identify with this theory since, living in a tropical island, I found that many coconut trees of the same type could be quite that similar. I laughed at that one with the view that some people think that all Japanese or Asian people looked alike, especially if they were not familiar with such people.

Barzolff informed David Sarno of the Los Angeles Times that it took him a total of 17 hours to make both the Haiti and Dominican Republic videos. He did it all by himself using a MacBook Pro and a suite of commercially available 3-D animation programs, including Vue 6. The videos are 100 percent computer-generated.

The videos, he said, were intended as research for a feature film project he’s been working on with Partizan, the France-based production company responsible for, among others, Michel Gondry’s “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.” When contacted to verify the story, “Eternal Sunshine” producer Georges Bermann said it was all true, and that Barzolff was “an absolute genius” who could “make anything look entirely real.”

The videos, he said, were research for a feature film project. Barzolff called the results of his experiment “entertaining, thrilling, completely addictive and a little scary.” The scary part, he said, was that in spite of the evidence, “many people refuse to believe it’s a hoax.”

Eight Human Skeletons found in Florida Forest - Mystery Deaths

Sunday, 26. August 2007 von Ondurag

A Wyoming forensics lab is beginning the process of trying to reconstruct faces from the eight skulls of eight human skeletons found in a Florida forest in Ft. Meyers, Florida earlier this year in March 2007. The case continues to baffle police officers and investigators alike - all skeletal remains were unburied and no clothing was found on the bodies.

Even more mystifying is the fact that all the skeletons belonged to male persons between the ages of 18 and 49 years old, all except one had expensive dental work done on their teeth during the course of their life and all were white males, possibly Hispanic.

The number of theories put out by the police so far, include the possibility of a serial killer, a mass suicide, human trafficking or an unscrupulous funeral home director dumping the bodies.

Forensic expert, Dr. Heather Walsh-Haney of Wyoming, will be carrying out investigations on the skeletons. Dr. Heather Walsh-Haney has proudly helped identify victims of the 9-11 attacks, the Valujet airplane crash and Hurricane Katrina in the past years. It is hoped that the identities of the victims, even one, will help de-mystify the case as soon as possible.

Rottweiler Raises Two Baby Lambs

Sunday, 26. August 2007 von Ondurag

A rottweiler named Molly in Welshpool, Wales, has been helping her owner to rear two baby lambs which went through a difficult birth. According to Maria Foster, a farmer, Molly took over as soon as the lambs were put into an Aga to keep them warm when their blood circulation needed to be kept going during the first 24 hours after birth.

Molly has since then, slept with the lambs to keep them warm and shielded the baby lambs from the house cat and the farmer’s sheep dog. The house cat is not allowed to come near the lambs and the sheep dog is only allowed to have a look before being pushed away.

Great Barrier Reef threatened by Climate Change - Death possible in 20 Years

Saturday, 25. August 2007 von Ondurag

THE Great Barrier Reef could be dead in 20 years unless there is a drastic reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, a marine biology expert in Australia said in early April.

Rising sea temperatures were bleaching the coral and causing it to die, said Professor Ove Hoegh-Guldberg of the Australian Research Council Centre for Excellence for Coral Reef Studies.

At the same time, increasing levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere were turning the world’s oceans more acidic and preventing corals from forming their limestone skeletons, he said.

Prof Hoegh-Guldberg and Professor Terry Hughes provided expert advice to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The IPCC Fourth Assessment Report has now been released and was been delayed due to objections from China, the US and Saudi Arabia.

Reverse Climate Change, Change your Lightbulbs and Save Money

Monday, 13. August 2007 von ondurag

How Many Light Bulbs dies it Take to Change the Climate?

Points for Governments to Consider:

  1. The initial cost of replacing incandescent light bulbs with energy-efficient fluorescent bulbs will be offset by longer-term savings
  2. Standard incandescent light bulbs can be phased out within a couple of years to avoid negative impact - the Australian government is using 3 years in a bid to reduce energy consumption; after which time they will no longer be for sale.
  3. Compact fluorescent or low-wattage bulbs cost about $5 Aussie dollars more, but are more energy-efficient and save an average of $30 Aussie Dollars per year; they will be initially costlier but over time they will become less expensive as is typical through high public demand and will last four to 10 times longer.
  4. The standard incandescent light bulb, developed for the mass market more than 125 years ago, consists of a metal filament glowing white-hot in a vacuum which wastes up to 95 per cent of the energy it uses - so most of us just waste money not making that change.
  5. Compact fluorescent lights use about a fifth of the electricity to produce the same illumination. Each bulb also lasts between four and 10 times longer.

Australian Prime Minister John Howard has stated that “We need to take practical measures in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.” It is felt the change to fluorescent lighting could cut greenhouse gas emissions by the order of 800,000 tonnes a year by 2012.

We hope that this simple idea - the ‘light bulb’ :); can have a huge impact on climate change and if any government can do so, this pending ban should be sweeping as many countries as possible.
